Soils And Root Development

A. Heavy Clay Soils: Add 1/3 to 1/2 volume sand to improve drainage with the addition of gypsum.  Baccto Top Soil, Baccto Peat or Baccto Pre- Moist Horticultural Sphagnum Peat adds organic matter and structure to the clay soil. Avoid working heavy clay soils until sufficiently dry. Take a handful of soil and make a ball; if it does not crumble, it is too wet.

B. Sandy Soils: Add 2-4 inches of Baccto Top Soil, Baccto Peat or Baccto Pre-Moist Horticultural Sphagnum.  Till into the soil to add organic matter.
